.another year, another….cake?.

Jaron turned 31 yesterday. We celebrated with a quiet family dinner at home last night. The thing with Jaron is he loves detail….right down to planning exactly what we are going to eat on his birthday ๐Ÿ˜‰

This year, instead of a “normal” cake he requested a CHOCOLATE PIZZA inspired by one he had at Max Brenner last year. We don’t have Max Brenner here in Tassie so it was up to me to create something with the same resemblance!

I have to admit I had my doubts when I was putting it together. I just couldn’t imagine all of the different flavours mixing well, but it was delicious! (Will share the recipe on Monday if you want to know how I did it.)

Happy Birthday Super Dad! We love you ๐Ÿ™‚

.Almost finished.

Quilting is my “go to” craft. I always like to have a quilt in progress and I can “go to” it when I want a break from my usual sewing. Quilts usually take me 6-12 months to make. I don’t like to be too speedy with them because, really, what are you supposed to do with a gazillion quilts lying around?!!

I started a coin quilt each for Oscar and Lil almost 12 months ago and this week I finished hand-quilting Oscar’s and have started on the binding. Nothing like some cool rolled up binding photos to brighten a cold, rainy day! I should be finished in the next couple of days (got some Masterchef to watch!) and then hopefully will get a nice day to take some photos to share.

.zipper pouches.

If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile you have probably worked out that when I come across a fun little sewing project I just can’t stop at one.

When I made Oishii I knew I was hooked on a good thing! At the same time I was putting together gift packs for my pattern testers and decided a zippered pouch each would be a great addition to their packs.

I have to admit that this is just round 1 of the zippered pouch sewing escapade! There are another 10 that I have recently finished but not photographed yet!! Nothing like digging through the scrap box and coming up with some cool combinations ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh, and I haven’t forgotten about the tutorial for these…Oscar and Lil want one each so I’m going to make a couple more soon and will take photos along the way. Stay tuned!

.Recipe Monday.

This is a BULK batch of chocolate chip biscuits. Mum would make these when we were kids and put most of them into bags in the freezer and pull out a bag for school lunches. They are bulked up with rolled oats so a little more healthy than regular choc chip bikkies. Of course, if you don’t want to make so many biscuits you can just halve the mixture ๐Ÿ™‚

Chocolate Chip Biscuits
450g butter
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 tsp vanilla
4 eggs
3 1/2 cups SR flour
2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups nuts (optional)
250g chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups coconut
4 cups rolled oats

Cream together butter and sugars in a very large bowl.
Add vanilla and eggs, beat well.
Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
Drop spoonfuls of mixture onto cookie trays and bake in moderate oven for 10-12 minutes.
