Took some pics this afternoon of the kids playing with the blocks covered from The Wood Man. I vowed to ONLY use scraps of scrapbook paper to cover them with – it took forever. Luckily we had 10 hours of no power for me to do it in! They were really simple to do, just time consuming. I cut squares from scrapbook paper, glued them on with PVA glue. When that was dried I sanded the edges and gave them a coat of Mod Podge to seal and protect them. We dropped into the Wood Man again this morning to pick up some letters I ordered last week. I wanted them to be as cheap as possible so we went with 3mm MDF. He could have cut them out of any fancy kind of wood though. He already has a few different alphabets already cut out to buy but most of them are upper-case and I wanted mine to look like the letters that Oscar and Lil are learning to write. I found a font on the computer I liked, printed it out, took it to him and voilla…a few days later we have two complete alphabets to play with! I’m thinking of covering the fronts of the letters in scrapbook paper like I did with the blocks, but not sure when that will happen!
This post was meant to happen yesterday. Along with a big list of things I wanted to get done.
We had huge storms yesterday morning which resulted in us being without electricity from 7am-5pm! What a day! Everything I tried to do turned out to be unsuccessful – it’s amazing how much you realise you rely on electricity to do most things until you are without it.
Turns out it was a VERY quiet day. One of our cars is out of action so we have also been home bound for the last two days. I ended up covering the wooden blocks with scrapbook paper. Oscar made and painted a house for his dinosaur toys out of a cardboard box – lined with toilet paper for carpet! Lil had a 3 1/2 hour sleep.
It’s all back to normal today. Lots of things to catch up on – and the weather has changed. It is FREEZING now. That icy, cold air has arrived. I wore a long-sleeved top yesterday for the first time in ages.
So…onto the post…
We spent Easter Monday taking the kids to Trowunna Wildlife Park in Mole Creek. I hadn’t been there since I was a kid. We did want to take them to Old Mac’s Farm so they could see some baby animals, but it ended up being closed for winter so we’ll have to save that one for later on. The Wildlife Park was a bit on the pricey side and it seems as though they haven’t done anything to it since I was a kid. We would have been really disapointed if they didn’t have kangaroos roaming around to be fed. Oscar and Lil were not interested in any of the animals, we were starting to feel really ripped off! They didn’t even care about the big, stinky wombat that Jaron got to hold – all they wanted to do was run in circles around some trees! So when we were walking along and three big kangaroos came bounding towards us I started to freak out. They were huge and big and strong! We were so surprised when the kids walked right up to them and started offering them food out of their little hands! So cute, and they thought it was fantastic.
Of course it started with easter egg treats for breakfast. Easter Bunny was being health-conscious and only left out two little eggs for each child this morning! I figure that while they are young and don’t care about quantity we shouldn’t go overboard. They had plenty more during the day anyway. I shouldn’t have let them come into our bed and eat their eggs because now there are melted chocolate spots all over the white sheets and doona cover. How’s that for motivation to wash the sheets?!
Church started a little later than usual this morning, so we took the opportunity to try and get some snaps of Oscar and Lil together. I said try. They weren’t very co-operative!I made Lil this Oliver + S Puppet Show Dress about a month ago. It turned out quite cute. Today was the first day she wore it. It was a nice pattern to sew, lots of detail and fiddly bits though so wasn’t very quick. Took me about 3 nights to finish off. I could probably make it faster now that I have had a go at it. I love the row of buttons down the back and am glad that I had my new sewing machine with automatic buttonhole function to finish it off!
