With the camera still out of action 🙁 today’s Recipe Monday photo and recipe comes courtesy of Taste – my favourite place for some cooking inspiration. I did actually make these brownies during the week though – and they were absolutely delightful! I didn’t put as much peanut butter in them as the recipe suggests because I didn’t want it to be too overpowering and I cooked them for a few minutes less than the recipe says also so that they would be moist and chewy and not cake-like.
Peanut Butter and Chocolate Brownies
melted butter, to grease
150g dark chocolate, coarsely chopped
100g butter, chopped
215g (1 cup) caster sugar
75g (1/2 cup) plain flour
2 tbs cocoa powder
2 eggs
200g (3/4 cup) crunchy peanut butter
Preheat oven to 160 degrees Celsius. Brush a 16cm x 26cm slab pan with melted butter to grease. Line base and two long sides with non-stick baking paper, allowing sides to overhang.
Place the chocolate and butter in a large heatproof bowl over a saucepan half-filled with simmering water (make sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water). Use a metal spoon to stir until the chocolate melts and mixture is smooth.
Combine the sugar, flour and cocoa powder in a bowl. Add chocolate mixture and eggs and stir until just combined. Pour into prepared pan. Spoon peanut butter over brownie mixture and use a round-bladed knife to create swirls.
Bake in moderate oven for 35-40 minutes or until crumbs cling to a skewer inserted into the centre. Set aside to cool, cut into slices to serve.
A quick recap on our weekend left us waiting in the emergency department at the hospital late on Saturday afternoon with Lil, who had broken out in a huge, red, blistery rash all over her body. She was perfectly happy though, not irritated or upset at all – in fact, she seemed extra hyperactive! Turns out she had some mystery allergenic reaction to “something” and they prescribed her with some phenergan to help it settle down. She still had it yesterday though, it seems to come and go all day long. No signs of it so far today so hopefully thats the end of it and she won’t turn out to be a little girl with allergies!
Thanks for the lovely comments on the Flirty Skirts pattern – I’m glad you all like it so much! I’ll draw the winner later on today so if you haven’t left a comment yet, then there are still a few hours left to do so.
I’m off to try and have a piece of toast…all of the morning sickness is gone now but for some reason my body can’t tolerate bread until after lunch, it was making me feel really sick. I’m in the mood for a piece of toast with vegemite and a cold milo now though so I’m going to give it a go…
I think this is my VERY favourite pattern so far…really, I mean that! I’ve been dreaming up ideas for Flirty Skirts for a long time now, but it has taken forever to eventuate. November was Quilt Market, December – Christmas, January – lots of visitors and F-I-N-A-L-L-Y in February I had time to play and sew and this is what I have come up with…
Flirty Skirts will be the most comfortable, relaxed skirts you will ever make or wear. Featuring cascading tiers and patchwork designs, Flirty Skirts will leave you feeling free and graceful.Gentle gathers between each tier create a soft, feminine look – perfect for a day in the countryside, unwinding at the beach or some fun shopping.
Whether you choose to make a stunning long or short ladies skirt or a delightful little girl’s skirt with matching appliqué top, flirty skirts are guaranteed to make you happy!
This pattern is definitely value for money – you get instructions to make either a ladies long skirt, ladies short skirt or little girl’s skirt with matching applique top! I’m loving the applique top – especially when paired with the flower detail on the skirt – too cute!
These skirts are all very simple to sew up – perfect for a busy Mum trying to fit in some sewing for fun when the house is clean and the kids are in bed (trust me, I should know! Although, maybe the house isn’t always clean – it just sounds good!) Great for beginner sewers too, nothing too tricky or complicated about these skirts.
If you want to see loads more photos of Flirty Skirts, information about sizes and fabric requirements or to find out where you can purchase them then head over to the Make It Perfect website. The website has had a bit of a face lift over the last few days so make sure you check it out!
A big thankyou to Sally from Eden Lane Photography for taking the cover and promo photos for me too – and her lovely models: Eve, Charli and Jasmine – you guys are stunners!
And a new pattern release isn’t complete without a giveaway, is it?! To win a free copy of the Flirty Skirts pattern, simply leave a comment at the end of this post – the giveaway will be opened until next Monday, 2nd March.
Why is it that when your camera is sitting there all ready to use you don’t feel like taking photos but the minute it is out of action all you want to do is snap, snap, snap?!!
The kids seem to be doing so many new, cute things and I can’t take photos of them.
I have been doing LOTS of sewing and I can’t take photos of my creations. (Carli…I have finished your cushions!)
The good news is that it looks like we can claim the camera accident on our house and contents insurance – horray! Jaron is dropping it into the insurance office today and we will find out what they can do for us within a week. It is WAY cheaper to get insurance to cover it than to fix or replace it ourselves and it won’t affect our premium. We’ve had insurance forever, we may aswell start using it!
So, until the camera returns, I’m just going to make a long list of things I need to take photos and blog about – then expect LOTS of blog posts!!
For now, here are some lovelies I have spied online lately to buy for kids…
A blackboard t-shirt (yes, you can write on the apple with chalk!) from Red Poppy:
Heaps of fun, beautifully packaged kids kits for cooking, craft and exploration from Seedling:
This, I want REALLY BAD for the baby…a soft, cuddly, knitted baby cocoon from Simply Basic Designs. Does anyone know of a pattern you can buy to knit one up yourself?
