.today she is 1.

1 whole year! I can’t believe it. I thought Oscar’s first year flew by, but it really feels like she has only been her for a few months. What a precious little girls she is to have around. She is so easy going and fun-loving. Laughs at anything and spends the whole day pottering around entertaining herself. She has been a tremendous sleeper and quick feeder, I would almost say she has been the perfect baby but I don’t want to jinx myself for next time! She just loooves Oscar and when he is around, she is happy. They are starting to play more together now, which is very cute. Oscar loves to give her three kisses on her cheek while he holds her head still with his hands. Lil doesn’t mind. Her favourite toys to play with are cars and she brooms them around on the floor, scooting behind them on her hands and knees. Her walking is so good now, this week she has started to run away from us when we chase her and looks so cute flapping her little arms about whilst squealing with delight! For me, having a daughter has opened my eyes to a new world of crafting and sewing. It is such a pleasure to make the clothes she wears and I hope that it is many, many years before she decides that it isn’t cool anymore!I could go on all day about all of the things we love about Lil, she is just the sweetest thing in our lives right now and I can’t imagine how dull and incomplete we would be without her.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PRECIOUS!

.custom wrap.

I’ve said before that I love sewing using someone else’s choice of fabrics. This skirt was no exception, a custom order for a customer in lovely, bright Kaffe Fassett and Amy Butler fabrics. The only problem is, they are always hard to part with when I am done!

.Now that’s a lot of chocolate!.

You just can’t pass up a good bargain, right? Especially if the bargain involves a lot of Cadbury chocolate…
The kids and I went grocery shopping this morning and then headed into Kmart to pick up a few things. There was a trolley full of these Time Out share packs which usually sell for around $5 each – all marked down to $1.01!!! (I wonder who decided to pop the 1c on the end!!) So I picked up 5 bags and got what I needed in the store and as I was walking around thought to myself, I can spend more than $5 on a great bargain, so I got another 5! Yep, 10 bags of Time Out goodness sitting on my kitchen bench. Don’t worry, I won’t eat too many…

.Recipe Monday.

We have just returned from a fun kid-free weekend in Hobart. Jaron and I have never been anywhere without the kids before and an invitation to Sarah and Joel’s birthday party was incentive enough to leave them with Mum and Dad and have a night away. And let me tell you, we could not have chosen a better time to leave them – on Saturday night Lil was sitting on Mum’s lap eating her dinner and she did a mega-spew all over Mum. Oscar has a really weak stomach and took one look at Lil throwing up and also spewed all over Mum! (He is so bad…dry-reaches at the sight of me changing Lil’s dirty nappy!) That night they slept well until 5:30am when Oscar woke up and threw up in his bed, and then continued to be sick for the rest of the day. (I slept in until 8am!!) So we got home to one sick, feeling very sorry for himself little boy and Lil who is her usual happy, silly little self! Lucky for me, there has been no spew since we came home, but Osc still isn’t feeling very well. Oh yeah, Mum had even washed all of the spew-covered sheets, quilts and clothes by the time we got home!!

If you’re looking for another chance to win something, then head over to this blog and leave a comment…

Okay, now for Recipe Monday (if you’re not totally turned off food after all of that spew-talk…), this is our fav chocolate pudding:

Chocolate Malt Self-Saucing Pudding
135g butter
1 1/4 cups caster sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups plain flour
2 1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup ground almonds
1/4 cup malted milk powder
1 cup milk
Sauce
2/3 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup malted milk powder
1 1/2 tbs cocoa
1 1/2 cups boiling water

Preheat oven to 170 degrees celsius. Place the butter and sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer and beat until pale.
Add the eggs gradually and beat until smooth. Sift the flour, baking powder and cocoa over the mixture, add the almond meal, malted milk powder and milk and beat until smooth.
Spoon the mixture into a greased 8 cup capacity ovenproof baking dish.
To make the sauce, place the sugar, malted milk powder and cocoa in a bowl. Pour over the boiling water and stir to combine. Spoon over the pudding mixture and bake for 45-50 minutes or until risen and cooked when tested with a skewer.
Serve warm with thick cream or ice cream.

.with love, from New Zealand.

Jaron has this Nana, I have never met her but we do correspond via mail and email ever so often. She has this amazing ability to knit up the most adorable little cardis and jumpers for my children. We have been the joyous recipients of many a hand-knitted treasure since Oscar was born.

Arriving in the mail all the way from New Zealand this week was a special early birthday package for Lil…this sweet little cardi being part of her gift. Isn’t is the cutest? I love it! It also came with a matching beanie, but I forgot to take photos of that (we are still mastering the art of keeping hats on!!)
No sooner had Lil and I headed outside to take some photos did Oscar join us with his camera to snap away! He took some good ones 🙂
