My first attempt at appliquéing using a very tight zig-zag stitch on my sewing machine. Have a big of perfecting to do…and it would help if Lil wasn’t sitting at my feet pressing the pedal when I wasn’t ready!!
Make It Perfect
(hehe…higgelty piggelty…I don’t think I’ve ever written those words before…they are making me laugh!)
Hmmm, blogging. I just made Recipe Monday last night. I have heaps to blog about but haven’t been able to find a quiet moment to sit down and do it for a few days and I don’t like things to be out of chronological order here (a bit obsessive, I know!) so this is a higgelty piggelty post. (Yeah, I just had to write those words again!)
It was sooo nice to have a long weekend! Lovely to have Jaron home and relax a bit and get some stuff done around the house and a have a few family outings. We started out on Friday morning attending the Anzac Day march in Deloraine. For some reason we always get the time wrong and miss the first part of the march, but were there for most of the ceremony and the walk back up the street! So, this photo is courtesy of a bit of blog-photo stealing from Lisa! (and I didn’t ask her first so she might just sue me!)
Pop is such a trooper, surely this is his last year marching…but knowing him he will be around until he is 100. What an amazing legacy he has left.
We visited Nan and Pop for a bit after the march and Nan had a cuddle with Lil. I love it how Nan still loves little babies after having 7 of her own, then 30-something grand-children, and now 20 or 30 great-grandchildren. She never tires of them and kind of grasps them tightly around the middle while she keeps on keeping on with her tasks! Jayne kindly invited us to invade their family birthday party in the afternoon so we took up the invitation and had a nice afternoon catching up with friends we miss a lot and don’t get to see as often as we would like since moving.
I had to get a photo of Lil in her autumn pinny. It fits perfectly, I made it a little longer than usual so it will be a bit warmer. She is so snuggly! Yesterday Mum put her finger in Lil’s mouth and would you believe that last weeks grizzling has finally paid off with a sharp little tooth sticking out of her gums! Finally Willsy… 🙂
Yesterday Jaron had his 29th birthday. He is not very happy about turning 29…too close to 30, he is starting to feel old! We celebrated with birthday dinner (lamb roast) on Sunday night as yesterday was work and then he had basketball straight after. He wanted a profiterole cake. I cheated because Coles sells very tasty already made unfilled profiteroles 🙂 BUT I did make the custard to fill them with and the ganache on the outside myself. They were yummo, and looked quite spectacular, if I do say so myself!
And Oscy-boy enjoyed the profiteroles very much too…
We made some bedroom changes over the weekend and have put Lil and Oscar in the same room. Something I have wanted to do for a few months, but have been a bit apprehensive about them waking each other up. So far, so good…I really like the idea of them sharing a room. It will be cost effective too as we will only have to have one heater going during the night in winter. We put Lil to bed first and then Oscar goes to sleep in our bed and we move him when he is asleep. They are cute when they wake up in the morning, Oscar sits at Lil’s cot and chats away to her until Jaron or I go in to get them out!
Potato Bites
800g desiree or waxy potatoes
¾c plain flour
½c grated cheddar or parmesan cheese
2 eggs
¾c milk
vegetable or olive oil
rock salt and peppercorns
Line large bowl with a clean tea towel. Grate the potatoes and tip into lined bowl. Bring up the sides of the tea towel and twist the top, squeezing out all the liquid. Discard the liquid and dry the bowl.
Tip the grated potato back into the bowl. Add flour, cheese, eggs and milk. Mix until combined.
Heat the oil in a non stick frypan until hot. Spoon rounded tablespoons of the mixture into the pan. Fry for 3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towel.
Season to taste with salt and pepper and serve immediately.
Phew…just made it 🙂
We had a home-day today. I love home days. We were meant to go to playgroup at church, but its been ages since we have just been able to stay at home and do whatever so I thought it might be nice to stay at home and catch up on housework and other bits and pieces. Lil has been much better today, has a bit of a temperature on and off but has been generally happy.
So we just played and made a mess all morning and then when the kids went to bed I cleaned up and sat down to a bit of sewing just for fun. I have had this light-weight corduroy swimming around in my fabric box for a few years now and haven’t had a project suitable to use it. It caught my eye as I was hunting around this morning and I instantly envisioned an autumn pinny for Lil.
I used my original pinny pattern, but as I wasn’t using contrasting fabrics I did away with the tiers and added a tight ruffle at the bottom for a bit of detail. I like it, I can picture her now in it with her leg warmers underneath! Will be sure to take some piscs.
Thanks heaps for all of your teething/nappy rash comments and advice yesterday…lots of food for thought! Cornflour is working a treat at the moment so I’m hoping we’ve found a winner and she doesn’t become immune to it after a few days!

Ooohhh, my little possum! I have a feeling teeth are about to make an appearance through this little ones gums – she is almost 9 months after all and still has none so they are bound to come very soon. Oscar didn’t get any teeth until he was almost one, and it seems Lil is following in his footsteps.
We have had some up and down days with Lil lately, she has mostly been her happy little self, but has had a killer dose of nappy rash which we can’t seem to get rid of and has been causing her a bit of pain. We’ve tried creams, powders, different liners, cloth, disposable, and its just not going away. It seems that it has completely cleared up and then the next day she will have it bad again.
Today she has had a temperature and been a bit grizzly. This is the second time she had fallen asleep on the lounge room floor! It is 5:30pm, I want to wake her so that she doesn’t stay up too late, but I can’t bring myself to do it as she looks so adorable!
Lets hope those teeth come through soon so she can get back to her happy little self again.
(Or it could be something totally unrelated to teeth, but as mothers we love blaming everything on them, don’t we?! Its like as long as we can blame something then it doesn’t seem so bad!)
