.going green…and blue and pink.

Can you believe, that amongst a whole heap of other things in my life at the moment that these are making me sooo excited?!!!
After a LOT of umm-ing and ahh-ing, I finally took the plunge and decided to use cloth nappies! I someone had told me 6 months ago that I would be investing in cloth, I would have laughed out loud! I had a friend who was trying to tell me how wonderful they were as she was contemplating whether to buy them for her baby and I kept telling her she was crazy. Well, six months later, this is us! Not crazy, but just sick to death of going to the supermarket all too often to stock up on nappies, and sick of changing 7 little pooey nappies a day, and sick of all of the nappies that end up in the rubbish bin.

I did quite a bit of research and asking around and decided on the bum genius nappies as being my choice of preference and I am totally in love with them (well, as much as someone can be in love with a nappy anyway!). They come in the most lovely colours and are so soft and snuggly and remarkably, not as bulky as I had imagined a cloth nappy to be.

**time for a little poo talk now, so if thats not your thing skip this bit**
Lil is doing up to 8 little poos a day and of course, I have to put a whole new disposable nappy on her every time she does one which is a huge waste seeing as most of the time her nappy is still dry. Using cloth nappies, I place a disposable liner in the nappy and every time she does one of her little poos I just remove the liner and place a fresh liner in the same nappy and keep doing this until her nappy is wet enough to change!

I think the kids look soooo cute in them! When I first put Oscar in one he was kind of puzzled and said “okay, take it off now Mum”!! But soon forgot about it once his pyjamas were on. They have even worn them overnight with no leaks or complaints. I only purchased 3 to begin with just incase I didn’t like them, but I am dying to go back online and purchase some asap so that we can have enough in stock to not have to use anymore disposables. For anyone interested, I found the cheapest place to purchase them from in Australia www.babysoftlandings.com.au – they are based in Launceston too so even better to support a local buisness!

.yummy mummys yummy cookies.

Yesterday morning was lots of fun catching up with my Deloraine Mummys. I really miss them since moving from Del-City so jumped at the chance to go to their Yummy Mummys group (Well, I kinda gate-crashed/invited myself!). Along with having a friendly chat and the kids getting together for a play, we also had a Cookie Swap party. Every one had to make their favourite cookie and bring along a plate to share for morning tea aswell as a bag of 5 cookies for everyone to take home wih them and a copy of their cookie recipe. So we all made a couple of batches of cookies at home and ended up with the same amount of cookies, only in lots of different varieties! Cool huh? Great way to stock up the freezer for lunches and snacks and not have to cook lots of different batches yourself. And taking the recipes home means that we can reproduce as many of our new favourite cookies we like!
Mel was brave enough to have everyone over to her house. When I say brave I don’t just mean brave to have lots of toddler and loud women around, I mean brave because she has a 3 week old baby (her fourth child) AND just moved house last Friday! She is a wonder woman though, just takes everything in her stride and gets on with it. Thanks Mel! Hope you managed to have a well deserved rest in the afternoon. 🙂 I was lucky to have a cuddle with Mel’s little Tyren…sooooooo adorable. It was the first time I have seen him and he is the cutest little man ever.
Thanks Del Yummy Mummys…you know I will always be a Yummy Mummy at heart so expect more gatecrashing to your morning teas in the future!!
Jaron left for Coffs Harbour for a few days yesterday. He has some seminar for work that he is going to. Wish it were me and not him going…what I would give for a weekend of sun and lazing by a pool (not that he will be doing much of that) and no kids. I do love my kids, but every stay at home Mum has dreams of full days and nights with no nappies to change and mouths to feed and minds to entertain! Anyway, we will miss him, but its nice for me to know that Mum and Dad are right across the road and I’m not really on my own. Jaron is having the worst run with flights lately. First his little fiasco when he and Cade almost missed Filipa’s wedding due to bad weather and flights being delayed, and now…he was meant to land in Coffs Harbour yesterday afternoon but one of his flights was delayed so it meant that he missed his connecting flight to Coffs and had to stay at a hotel in Sydney overnight as there were no free seats last night and has finally gotten on a plane this morning! Which he almost missed aswell the shuttle that was meant to be picking him up from his hotel to get to the airport didn’t turn up and he had to speed to the airport in a taxi and only just made check-in for the flight!!! I’m sure he will be happy to get home on Sunday, and will be even happier that Monday is a public holiday!

.make it perfect patterns.

I am almost done!! The first three “make it perfect” patterns are just about finished. A little bit of minor tweaking and they will be ready to sell!

I didn’t realise that pattern writing/making would be such a time consuming process, my brain is sore now, but seeing the finished (well, almost) product is well worth it.

What started out with a whole lot of this: (plus way too much time at the computer, lots of trial and error at the sewing machine, and heaps of paper scrunching, fabric cutting, drawing, sketching, and thinking)….

Resulted in THESE: My first three little patterns. My aim is to design and write funky, modern patterns to be sold in the quilting industry. I am in awe of the gorgeous fabrics being designed of late, I am overwhelmed at the talent of designers such as Amy Butler, Heather Bailey, Anna Maria Horner, Sandi Henderson, just to name a few and want to create a range of patterns which are fresh and fun to complement these fabrics.
(you’ll have to excuse my terrible photos…I’ll get some good ones soon!)

Pattern #1: The Versatile Wrap

I truly do love this wrap skirt. It is so easy to make and depending on the fabric you use for it, can be a casual skirt or something a little more dressy. I love it because it really shows off whatever cute fabric you decide to make it out of and it is quick and easy to put together. It works well as a maternity skirt also.

Pattern #2: Pinny

This little pinny is just adorable! (I want one in my size!) Just right for that sweet little girl in your life, this pattern has instructions for sizes 6 months – 5 years. Much, much cuter that anything you will buy in the shops, and no body else will have one the same! Teamed with a long sleeved top and some jeans or leggings it can be worn when the weather is cold, a t-shirt underneath when its a little warmer or on its own for summer fun!

Pattern #3: Eye Spy Bags

(still working on a photo for the cover…)
These cool bags are filled with lots and lots of little items for kids (and adults!) to “spy” through a plastic viewing window. Perfect for church, car rides, doctors surgery, anywhere a quiet activity is needed. A brilliant educational toy, which helps to encourage tactile development, fine motor skills and concentration skills.
So, there you have it! I’m excited to be getting them out to some shops and will let you know when and where they end up. Of course, you can always email me (link at the side of my blog) for a price list and I can get them out to you. Of if you are not a sewer but want something made up, email me and I can custom make for you!

.reverting.

We have a sneaky two year old living in our house. It seems that Oscar has taken a liking to Lil’s dummys. He has been dummy-less since the big chop in October, but as they say, it takes a long time to loose a habit!!

Whenever Oscar is sucking Lil’s dummy, I ask him “whose dummy is that?” to which he will reply “its Oscars!”, then when I ask him again he sheepishly says “its Willsys” as he hands it over. Of late, it is quite common to walk into the loungeroom and hear a sucking sound coming from behind the couch, only to find Osc hiding away behind there! I usually have around 4 dummies that Lil rotates through and I was constantly losing them…well today Oscar reveals that he has secret hiding spots for “his” dummies around the house! Aahh…what to do? It could be worse and keeps him quiet I guess!

.scarce blog.

My blog feels boring…but I don’t really have much to post. I have been slack with photo taking and we seem to have just been doing the same old usual stuff around here. I have found some very cool internet stuff though…so here’s a bit of a share::

So cool…this lady Allie will make your handwriting into a font for $5! She has a cute blog too, and lots of funky cool handwriting fonts to download for free. I think she is a member of my church too.
I really like this cool train doona cover. One day, when we have a house of our own, I would love to paint a mural like this on the kids bedroom wall. When we were growing up we had a HUGE whole wall size print of Bambi. It was very cool, I think it must have been a wallpaper mural. Did you know that you can buy a stainless steel bar of soap to rub on your hands after you have finished cutting up onions, garlic or anything else that makes your hands smelly and the smell will instantly disappear? Well, I don’t have a bar of soap, but rub my hands on the sink or tap when I have finished and it works exactly the same way…try it, its awesome!
I really, really, really love cherry tomatoes at the moment…can’t get enough of them. They are like lollies. (photo from here.)
Lil says “da-da” in the sweetest little girly voice…and eats one whole weetbix for breakfast every morning!
I’ve got two sleeping babies, so I’m off to do some fun stuff now!!!
