.night time ball.

The weather is fast becoming chilly in Tassie. I am very reluctant to let go of our sunshine, but it seems that I don’t have much of a say in what the weather is deciding to do lately. We have compensated by having the heater on most mornings, pulling out our warmer clothes and adding extra blankets to the beds. The evenings have been surprisingly mild though, so we have been trying to make the most of a bit of outdoors time while it is still light and not absolutely freezing cold. Doing fun things like playing a bit of basket ball…
yes, that is an exercise ball…looks like fun, but was actually getting quite dangerous! Those things have a huge bounce and lots of force behind them with they get moving!
Last week I was a bad blogger. I had a very busy week, went to playgroup THREE times! The cool playgroup I found near our house is on twice a week and then we had one with the Mums from church aswell. The rest of the week was pretty much spent sewing and writing patterns for a few different things I have designed for a local quilt store. More about that in a couple of days when I have finished them all, it has been fun, but very time consuming (hence, me taking the kids to playgroup three times to make up for my guilt of sitting at the computer for hours on end! And to tire them out so that when we get home from playgroup they will sleep for a long time and I can sit uninterrupted at the computer for hours on end!!!)

.the wedding photoshopped.

Just thought I would share some of Fil and Chris’ wedding photos that I have been playing around with in photoshop. I am a VERY beginner photoshopper…just kind of make it up as I go, but I think they look pretty good!

We found a playgroup out here to go to and went this morning. It was great, heaps of people there. It is run by the local primary school but is at a community hall, the kinder teacher comes out and puts it on and it is lots of fun. Heaps of cool activities for the kids to do – toys, games, playdough, cutting and pasting, drawing, painting, water play, bikes. Was really well organised. Now I just have to make some friends!!!

.Recipe Monday.

These are definitely a family favourite. Mum has always made these cookies for us, they are that nice crisp on the outside, chewy on the inside kind. The mixture is sooo good too, I think we would eat more mixture than would be cooked! I have NEVER been able to make them like Mum does, until I moved into a house with a fan-forced oven. The oven is the key…so if you make them in an ordinary oven, they will still taste okay, but probably won’t be crisp and chewy.

Only THE BEST Chocolate Chip Cookies ever

125g butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 egg
1 3/4 cups self-raising flour
1/2 tsp salt
125g chocolate chips
60g walnuts (optional)

Cream together butter, sugars and vanilla.
Add lightly beaten egg gradually, beating well after each addition.
Mix in sifted flour and salt.
Add chocolate chips and walnuts, mix well.
Shape teaspoons of mixture into small balls, place on baking paper lined oven trays allowing room for spreading.
Bake in moderate oven 10-12 minutes.

.pinafore.

I really love pinafores. I really do. Are they back in fashion yet because I would wear one all the time if I could. Well, until they come back in fashion I will just have to dress Lil in them and live my pinafore fetish through her! Thank goodness I got a little girl!

So this week I spent a few days drafting and designing a cute little pinafore pattern to make a dress for Lil. I didn’t want to use “good” fabric yet, incase it didn’t work out! So I used some left over fabric I had in my stash from the cushions on our couch (she blends in very well with the decor in the loungeroom now!)

Anyway, it worked out okay. I guess I am more critical than the average viewer – you know how you always pick faults in your own work? I still need to make a few modifications…shorten the straps and bring in the sides a little, but its not bad for my first effort! If I leave it as it is, she will probably grow into it though.

.did somebody say gorgeous?.

So…as a first time mother of a two-year old, you are constantly warned about the tantrums, sneakiness, winging, sooking that is to come. If I didn’t already have a two-year old I don’t think I would have wanted one based on the treacherous stories that are passed around.

Having now experienced two-year oldness, I have to agree to a certain degree that it is sometimes pretty sucky and lots of hard work….

BUT then you get days like today…..

When that cheeky little two-year old pulls out his sweet charm and tells you, out of the blue, many times during the day…

“Mummy, you soooo gorgeous”

Aaahhhh…could melt your heart. Especially when you are feeling rotten all day long, with your hair tied up all messy from neglecting to wash it for a few days, wearing your trackies, hoodie and your slippers with a killer headache. Yep, I feel gorgeous! Stick around little buddy, I could sure use your pick-me-ups more often.
