Recipe Monday (on Tuesday!)

Recipe Monday has been neglected! Last week it didn’t happen because I was in Melbourne and then yesterday I spent the day at Mum and Dad’s house with Carli and her family visiting so it is a bit late this week…

This is a hearty, very filling, yummy muesli recipe that my good friend from Sydney, Kelly Peihopa gave me a few years ago. It is really good and very healthy.

Home Made Muesli

4c rolled oats
½c sunflower seeds
½c coconut
¾c chopped almonds
1c wheat germ
¾c pitted dates
½c hot water
1 large very ripe banana
1t vanilla
1T maple syrup
Assorted dried fruit

Mix rolled oats, sunflower seeds, coconut, almonds and wheat germ well in a large bowl.
Soak dates in hot water for about 10 minutes.
Puree soaked dates (and water), banana, vanilla and maple syrup until it becomes a smooth consistency.
Mix pureed mixture through the dry ingredients.
Spread evenly onto 2 baking trays.Bake 130°C for 1½ hours or until toasted through, stirring often (it will take awhile).
Stir through mixed dried fruit when muesli has cooled.
Store in the fridge in a Tupperware container.

Happy Birthday :)

Yesterday was Jaron’s 28th birthday, we started out the day with a sleep in (thanks Oscar – they don’t happen very often these days!) Then Jaron and Oscar washed the car and then it was off to Devonport to buy a bike for Jaron’s birthday present. He got a really good deal at the shop by sweet-talking the owner and telling him it was his birthday! Unfortunately it has been raining ever since the purchase so he hasn’t been able to take it for a proper ride yet.
Then we met Mum and Dad, Filipa, Cade, Carli, Winston, Mason and Maya at Anvers for lunch – yummo! They have the best Tasmanian foods and wicked hot chocolates!
Photos from playing in the forest at Anvers while we were waiting for our food to come…

drool.

Finally…I have opened my drool. baby bibs eBay store. There are HEAPS of bibs for sale, but I have just listed a few sets for the moment, will put some more on when I get around to it. Anyway, check out my store: www.stores.ebay.com.au/drool-bibs and tell everyone you know about it. We are going to be at the Deloraine Markets on Saturday 5th May also if you want to see the bibs up close.

They are great – funky, fresh patterns and designs. I wanted to make a decent bib after Oscar was a mega drooly baby, he was constantly wet with drool rashes and wet clothes and lots of mould spots on his bibs and clothes if they would sit in the laundry basket for more than one day! I got so sick of it and wanted to come up with something that actually would work as a bib but not look daggy. These bibs are backed with soft and cuddly polar fleece fabric, which absorbs the moisture, but dries super quick and doesn’t allow the drool to soak into the baby’s clothes.

ENJOY!!!

The bibs all ready to go…100 of them! And more to make!
There are more designs than I have listed on my ebay store so far, so if you want anything in particular – let me know.

Lest We Forget

Yesterday we celebrated Anzac Day. It is a tradition for us to attend the Anzac Day march in Deloraine and spend time with family and friends, for us it is even more special as we have the honour of our Pop still being with us today and marching in the march each year. This year Pop hasn’t been very well, so drove in the car with Uncle Howard and Nan. We are so proud of him and everything he has done for our family, he is a perfect example for us all to look up to and follow.

Oscar and Pop having a cuddle – these photos are beautiful…Oscar is so lucky to have great-grandparents to love and look up to. Such special moments, Osc used to be scared of Pop and never want to go near him but now he loves him and loves to give him a cuddle and a hand shake whenever we see him.

4 minutes

We are home again, safe and sound…but it was a journey to get home!! We were scheduled to fly out at 5:40pm on Tuesday night and had to be at the airport at least half an hour before our flight left so we allowed ourselves extra time to get to the airport because of peak hour traffic. The traffic turned out to be horrendous – lots of road works and delays along the way and we finally made it to the airport. When we ran inside and up to the desk the lady told us that we had missed our flight nd couldn’t get a refund or travel with them that night so would have to buy another ticket for the morning or find another airline to fly with. I asked the lady how late we were and she said 4 minutses…the cut off time for checking into our flight finished just 4 minutes previous! What a joke, they wouldn’t budge and wouldn’t let us fly because we were 4 minutes late! As if you can predict traffic and delays on the road. We were so peed off and ended up having to buy another (very expensive) flight home with another airline that night. Had to wait around at the airport for 4 hours until that one left though! It was such a joke. Oscar was great though and had a wonderful time running around and jumping in every car/plane kids ride he came across.

Anyway…we are NEVER flying with Jetstar again…have had quite a few bad experiences with them and this one just topped it all off.

But we are home safe and sound!
