Essential Shorts, Make It Perfect

.Essential Shorts.

It’s a breakthrough since childbirth…I finally got my act together and produced a new pattern! Life feels semi-normal again!
I wanted to sneak in a Summery pattern before the weather turns so was motivated to get to work on this new pattern for some easy-to-wear Women’s shorts.

ESSENTIAL SHORTS
Essential Shorts are a wardrobe staple, the pair of slim-fitting shorts you will find yourself choosing over and over again.

Whether you choose to dress them up and have a fun night out or keep them casual for a relaxing day at the beach, Essential Shorts are a Summer must-have.

Essential Shorts feature a flattering front waistband, elastic back waistband and drawstrings for a perfect fit.

Sitting on the knee, they are easy and comfortable to wear for all of your daily duties or night time adventures!

I’ve got to say, I love wearing these shorts. The elastic in the back waistband means that they are super comfortable but the fit is still very flattering. Essential Shorts are suited to most mid-light weight fabrics. I’ve used mostly linens in my versions so far, these ones are made using Yarn-dyed Essex Linen in Denim from Robert Kaufman.

Essential Shorts are an easy fuss-free sew for any sewing level. You can easily make them a little shorter or longer if you feel like changing it up a bit and making a various pairs with different fabric choices will give variety to your Summer wardrobe.

Essential Shorts is avaliable in women’s sizes 2x-small – 2x-large, catering for a wide range of sizes. You can purchase an Instant Download PDF Pattern from my website now or paper versions of the pattern will start hitting stores soon. Check out my list of stockists here.

.Teacher Christmas gifts.

I don’t know about you, but I have such gratitude for my children’s school teachers. We have been so blessed to have an amazing bunch of school teachers again this year and it is always sad to say goodbye to them at the end of the school year.
I was super organised this year and started the teacher presents about a month before they were due to be gifted. Which was a good thing because all the kids came down sick during the last week of school and even missed out on a lot of the end of year fun at school so I wouldn’t have had time to put anything creative together.
When I have made personalised zippered pencil cases for the teachers in the past, they have been thrilled. The kids wrote their teachers names for me again, which traced using a water erasable pen and then embroidered.

(I love Tommy’s backwards “c”)

It’s been awhile since I last had a good dig through my fabric scrap bin, I had forgotten about some of the pretties in there! As usual, I used my zippered pouch tutorial for these.

And hip, hip horray! We are on Summer holidays. Such a good feeling to know that there is no morning rush or school drop off/pick up to time Harvey’s naps around. I love the Summer holidays and this year we have a very special surprise planned for the kids that they don’t know about yet, but will find out on Christmas day! It’s gonna be fun!

Hero Vest, Make It Perfect, Uptown Girl

.Baby Poppy turned 1.

At the beginning of July baby Poppy turned 1. She is the sweetest little thing. All smiles and cuddles with the most adorable wispy, blonde hair.

For her birthday I made her a little size 1 Uptown Girl – I love how the smaller sizes use hardly any fabric, perfect for some stash busting sewing!

This jacket is made using quilting cotton for both layers with some left-over quilt batting in between for snuggly warmth.

And for when it’s cold, but not cold enough for a big jacket, I also made her a girl-style Hero Vest.

Quilting cotton exterior with polar fleece lining and cute circular pockets.

Oh, and here’s a shot of the other side of the Uptown Girl jacket, a little less bright and busy.

Hero Vest, Make It Perfect

.Hero Vest in jersey knit.

This Hero Vest was one of the first I made and it has been worn to death over winter. Unlike Oscar, Tommy is our cold boy. He doesn’t handle winter so well and is always freezing. His Hero Vests have saved the day over and over again, in fact, I’m planning on sewing him another one ASAP so that there is always a clean one to be worn!

I didn’t even bother getting Tommy a jacket this winter. I knew we wouldn’t be spending a great deal of time outside with a new baby and his vests have been just the right amount of warmth to do the job. He saves the hood for the special occasion of rain only!

This Hero Vest is sewn with a knit fabric exterior. As nice as the cotton version is, there is something cosier about soft and stretchy knit fabric, I think it’s a little warmer too. Our first few days of Spring were delightful, unfortunately the weather is taking a cold turn again so I think we’ve got plenty of Hero Vest wearing time ahead of us!
