.New pattern…AFTERGLOW.

The next pattern I’m excited to share with you is AFTERGLOW…

Afterglow is a super sweet nightdress designed for little sleeping beauties…you know, the little girls that just have to wear a dress everywhere?!!
This simple design, featuring pleated front detail and dainty puffy sleeves, is comfortable and easy-to-wear for a good night’s rest.
Due to it’s classic look, Afterglow can easily double as a play dress with side ties – yep, good enough to wear day or night, dancing in the backyard or twirling in the bedroom!

It seems that most of the patterns I design come because of some little obsession or need for a certain article of clothing…Sprout was designed because Lil needed a warm dress…Sweet Dreams, because I wanted a decent pair of jammies…Afterglow was designed after Lil suddenly became obsessed with dresses and demanded to wear her play dresses ALL the time.  She doesn’t really wear pyjamas at the moment, just picks a dress from her cupboard (or the ironing basket!) and wears it to bed and we have one happy little girl!

So what better thing to do than make a nightdress which looks good enough to be worn as a play dress too?  She can wear it day and night as she pleases!

I love this pattern because it is so fast to sew up, definitely can be achieved in one night, yet the finished dress doesn’t lack sophistication and attention to detail.

Once again, Fiona has outdone herself with these adorable photos – thank Fiona!

.New pattern…PLAYTIME SKORT.

Welcome back!!!  The first pattern I’d like to introduce you to is PLAYTIME SKORT…
Playtime Skort puts the fun back into funky!  Active little girls can play as they please while wearing their Playtime Skort, providing modesty in the playground.
Made from super comfy stretch fabric and with dainty bubble skirt detail, it is simple to pull on in the morning and have fun playing all day.  Whether hanging upside down on the monkey bars or heading off to a birthday party, Playtime Skort will cover all bases.
This pattern provides options to make a pair of shorts, a cute bubble skirt, a comfortable single-layer skirt or a skort from one easy pattern as well as instructions to create a matching reverse-applique shirt for a complete outfit!

About a month ago, I was contacted by Angela from Sew Bright Alpine Quilting asking me if I would consider creating a pattern using some of the new stretch (knit) fabrics that are around.  After hearing feedback from a few of my customers, saying that they would love to see more stretch sewing patterns, of course I couldn’t say no!

After a bit of discussion with a few friends, I decided upon this skort pattern for little girls.  I don’t know about other Mum’s out there, but I am totally sick of seeing Lil’s undies every time she wears a dress or skirt – which is just about every day!  A skort is the perfect way to solve this problem, she can wriggle around and lift up her skirt as much as she likes without giving the whole world a view of her underwear!  She thinks it is the funniest thing and calls it her “magic skirt” 🙂

And just incase you don’t want to make a bubble-skirt, there are options to make a skort with a VERY simple single-layer skirt.  Or you can forget about the skort altogether and the make skirts on their own or a pair of little shorts that look super cute with a longer t-shirt.

For a lovely selection of stretch fabrics, contact Angela at Sew Bright – they are great to work with!

A big thankyou to the brilliant Fiona Harding for these super cute photos of Lil – I just love them!!

.Check back tomorrow :).

Aaaah, I’m breathing a big sigh of relief as I type this blog post because it means it is over!!  The last few weeks have been a marathon…designing, sewing and writing THREE new patterns, as well as having them tested and photographed by my trusty helpers.  I think I’m going to happily stick to one pattern at a time for awhile now!
I am off to Melbourne tomorrow morning, headed off to Quilt Market.  Still got a few last minute sewing bits and pieces to get done tonight, not to mention pack and clean the house!  Nothing like a deadline to make you work though!!  I’m excited to meet up and stay with Saffron Craig tomorrow and we will be joined by Kate and Becky on Saturday – so cool to finally meet my online friends in real life 🙂  And I get to catch up with all of my Creative Abundance buddies too – lots of fun to be had, I’m sure!
So, while I’m off having fun…stay tuned to the blog – I’ve got posts set up to go live at 7am for the next three days sharing my new patterns with you 🙂
See you tomorrow!

.Revamping the wrap…

It is hard to believe that my VERY first pattern almost 3 years ago…The Versatile Wrap is still amongst the top sellers in my range!  I still love my wrap skirts (and I have many) but am in need of a few more to add to the wardrobe because I think one of my sisters may have stolen 3 or 4 from my stash!

I think I need to reward the Wrap for it’s hard work and revamp the cover photo…what do you reckon?  Nothing like a change to spruce things up a bit!
The problem is, I’m having a really hard time deciding on the perfect fabric to use for the new cover…
I purchased some of the Patricia Bravo, Modern Affair fabric range, but when it arrived I just wasn’t smitten.  It is really lovely fabric, but just isn’t working for me.
So then I took a quick visit to my local fabric store and picked up some funky orange and grey spots from XLN Fabrics, and they are super cool, but when I got them home I just wasn’t sure they were going to be right either.

I can’t decide for myself…so what else to do, but enlist the help of my blog readers!!
Here’s the plea:  Help me choose fabric for the new Versatile Wrap cover photo.
My requirements are:
  • The fabrics need to be from a fairly current range
  • I’m looking for modern, but classic…not too “cute” and no novelty prints
  • Something that will appeal to a wide range of ages
What’s in it for you?  Everyone who suggests a fabric (or fabric combo) either by leaving a comment on my blog, Facebook page or email will go into the draw to win a copy of the new, revamped Versatile Wrap pattern.  If I happen to go with your suggestion, I’ll send you any THREE Make It Perfect patterns you desire 🙂

.Designer Pillows.

We had a fun morning yesterday with Miss Fiona while she took photos for a couple of my new patterns.  I so love handing the photography for my patterns over to someone else.  Truth be told, by the time I get to the end of a pattern, I am usually feeling a little over it and it is refreshing to see someone else’s interpretation of the pattern.  Helps me to get excited about the pattern again!
One of the photo shoots took place in my bedroom.  I have had this thing about having an all white bedroom for awhile now.  Totally not what is expected from me…a colour freak!  But I really like the clean look that white provides.  So I only buy white sheets and doona covers now and on our recent trip to Ikea we bought a new white bed and bedside tables.
It was all good until I decided that we needed to invite a bit of colour into the bedroom for the photo shoot and wrapped our pillows in some of my fabric stash.

Oh dear.  I REALLY like it.  Which totally goes against my white bedroom plans.  And now I am experimenting with all of my fabric stash, trying to find the right mix of fabrics to make pillow cases from.  Ooh, maybe I could change them every season?!!

And just to prove how make-shift these photo shoots are…this is the very technical way I attached the fabric to the pillows!  Which actually is a really handy way of visualising what feel the fabrics are going to contribute with the room!!
