I love baby legs and there’s nothing cuter than a baby boy wearing shorts. I made these shorts using Farbenmix Primera towelling knit from Crafty Mamas. The same fabric that I used for this little suit. They melt me every time he wears them, with their funky retro style. The pattern is from Ottobre 3/2012, Donkey Sweatshirt Shorts.
The tshirt is one that I have made quite a few of for Harvey. It has an envelope-style neckline opening which makes dressing a breeze. This pattern is from Ottobre 3/2011, Happy Animals T-shirt. The fabric is another Lillestoff print (I’m officially hooked, can you tell?!)
At first I wasn’t sure about using a snowy, Wintery penguin print for a Summer piece of clothing, the but contradiction makes me smile. We’re cheering on the Winter Olympics here in the heat! Go Aussies!
I looove this little outfit. And I’m reminding myself that comfort and practicality always wins. Especially now that Harvey is getting much bigger, it is much easier to dress him in clothes that are easy to pull on and off and that sit right all day long. This top is made from some Lillestoff crocodiles fabric I bought from Crafty Mamas. The pattern is from Ottobre 4/2011, Baby Basics T-shirt. The snaps in the neckline are brilliant. So easy to sew with no plackets or tricky openings to worry about. The neckline binding is simply sewed across the shoulder seam and then closed with snaps. Easy to get over Harvey’s head but the neckline opening isn’t bigger than it needs to be.
The pants are made from french terry lycra. This fabric washes and wears so well. It is just thick enough to offer some stability and extra warmth, and still nice and stretchy for a good fit. This pattern is from Ottobre3/2012 Koala Velour Pants. The picture for the pattern shown is for girl’s velour pants. I wasn’t sure how it would look for boys, but I think they are perfect. This pattern will definitley be getting a work out in the future. Oh, and the little, impractical, never to be used pockets? Cute as can be!
Hello there Mr Harvey! Yep, I think he’s happy with these ones!
Yay! We survived the first 6 months of baby-life and celebrated with a half-birthday! I’m happy we have reached the 6 month mark. I love having tiny, cuddly, sleepy newborns but always find the 3-6 month age difficult. They start to wake up more, and want to do more but their little bodies aren’t physically ready to sit and roll as much as they would like. Once we hit 6 months it gets easier though and I feel like we are getting into a much better routine.
Turning 6 months brought about lots of change…which wasn’t initially a good thing because he got really unsettled. His sleeping went even more downhill and I decided to get serious with trying to get things sorted out. I read Save Our Sleep and adopted a few principles from there which really helped a lot. I couldn’t commit to the whole strict routine that is suggested in the book but the bits and pieces I did use did seem to work and put us back on the right track. He went from waking every hour or two during the night and only having 40 minute naps during the day to sleeping from 7pm – 3am or 4am (with a dreamfeed at 11pm that I cut out after about 1 month). And then usually sleeping again until around 6am or 7am. It is heaven to have my evenings and a bit of solid sleep back again! We are still working on longer day time naps but every couple of days he will sleep for 2 hours unassisted so finger crossed that will turn into more of a habit on his own. Harvey also made the move out of our bedroom into a room on his own which helps with sleeping so, so much. He is out of the hammock and into a cot and not being swaddled to sleep anymore. That was such a hard habit to break, I don’t remember the other kids caring so much about being wrapped to go to sleep but he really loved it. He started rolling around his cot too much though and I didn’t want to keep his arms restricted if he was moving about.
Harvey started on solids about 2 weeks before he turned 6 months and happily guzzles up every little bit. I don’t think we are going to have any issues with this boy and food! He has happily eaten a whole range of fruits and vegetables, some weetbix, and chicken but his absolute favourites are banana and greek yoghurt. The yoghurt especially – he cries when it is all gone and will keep eating it if I offered it to him, which I don’t because he is still pretty spewy and yoghurt spew is not good news!
He also started sitting on his own this month which has made him heaps happier, it is much easier for him to play with toys and things around him and see what is going on now. And his rolling is out of control, he moves around the room so fast now and sometimes will even make his way to me when I am in the dining room or the kitchen!
You are growing up way too fast little boy! Slow down for the next month, okay? I don’t want you to lose those chubba cheeks yet!
Aaah, this little boy is just getting cuter every single day. 6 months in and I’m just starting to feel as though I can accomplish more than general house and Mum stuff again. I didn’t think it would take this long but sleeping (or lack of) has taken it’s toll and everything just seems extra busy. Having said that, I still haven’t touched anything Make It Perfect related for a long time but I am getting the urge to start creating new patterns again and that’s a good thing! I’ve learned over the last few years not to push it, inspiration will come when the time is right.
There has been a little bit of Harvey sewing going on though. A growing baby does that. I’m actually looking forward to him not growing quite so quickly now so that his clothes fit for a bit longer! This long-sleeved top is from Ottobre 4/2012. “Mint tshirt.” I like the opening at the back of the neckline, it really does making dressing a lot happier and easier. I’m not totally in love with this beaver fabric…some days I like it more than others though, and the colours and nice and fresh.
The pants are from Ottobre 1/2013. “Tiikeri sweatpants.” I used french terry lycra for these and like the extra thickness in the fabric. These are a cute fit, and would work well for a crawling baby.
I was sorting through some photos and realised that I hadn’t shared photos of Harvey wearing his hoody jacket. This one is made from french terry lycra too and has been worn heaps. I’ll be making more of these for next winter. You can read more about the jacket here.
