Aaah, this little boy is just getting cuter every single day. 6 months in and I’m just starting to feel as though I can accomplish more than general house and Mum stuff again. I didn’t think it would take this long but sleeping (or lack of) has taken it’s toll and everything just seems extra busy.
Having said that, I still haven’t touched anything Make It Perfect related for a long time but I am getting the urge to start creating new patterns again and that’s a good thing! I’ve learned over the last few years not to push it, inspiration will come when the time is right.

There has been a little bit of Harvey sewing going on though. A growing baby does that. I’m actually looking forward to him not growing quite so quickly now so that his clothes fit for a bit longer!
This long-sleeved top is from Ottobre 4/2012. “Mint tshirt.” I like the opening at the back of the neckline, it really does making dressing a lot happier and easier. I’m not totally in love with this beaver fabric…some days I like it more than others though, and the colours and nice and fresh.

The pants are from Ottobre 1/2013. “Tiikeri sweatpants.” I used french terry lycra for these and like the extra thickness in the fabric. These are a cute fit, and would work well for a crawling baby.

I was sorting through some photos and realised that I hadn’t shared photos of Harvey wearing his hoody jacket. This one is made from french terry lycra too and has been worn heaps. I’ll be making more of these for next winter. You can read more about the jacket here.

.Harvey models: Mr Frog.

After lots of wearing the first time around, I knew that making a second set from this pattern would be a winner.

And the crazy frogs wearing glasses…I ordered the fabric, then it arrived, then I wasn’t so sure, then I cut into it anyway and now I love it!  Really, you gotta make the most of being able to dress your boys in crazy prints because it doesn’t last for long!

The pants pattern comes from Ottobre 3/2013, harem-style baggy pants called “Summer Sea Jersey Pants.” They are incredibly comfortable, and lightweight. I like how the ribbing waistband with no added elastic is just tight enough to stay up without being restrictive. They work great over a bodysuit, but they wouldn’t stay up if they were sitting directly on skin, you would have to make the ribbing a lot tighter or add a casing for elastic if you weren’t planning on wearing a bodysuit underneath.

The bodysuit pattern is an old favourite from Ottobre 6/2012, “Kisuliini Raglan-Sleeve Bodysuit.” Because of previous issues with the neck being too tight, I cut about 1/8″ off the entire neckline before sewing on the binding. Way easier fix than adding in some kind of opening and snaps.

And like most of my knit fabrics, these come from Crafty Mamas too. Looks like there is still some of the froggy print in store if you are quick!

How cute is my little fatty? I could just squeeze and cuddle him all day…wait on, I do! This one’s a total Mama’s boy and doesn’t like to let me out of his sight!

.Harvey: 5 months.

We’re back again with yet another post about Harvey – I think this blog should be called the Harvey Show because that’s pretty much all that goes on around here lately! We love him so though and he definitley has entered our family with a whirlwind of change!

5 months still brings a lot of finger sucking and chewing anything he can find…dare I say it could be teeth? Who knows? Oscar and Lil didn’t get any until they were 1 but Tommy was 6 months when his sprouted so you never know. Actually, reading that post about Tommy sounds so similar to Harvey at the moment – except Harvey’s sleeping day AND night is rotten! We are going to move him out of our bedroom tomorrow night and get tough, hopefully it won’t take too long for him to settle into a better sleeping routine and sleep for more than 40 minutes at a time! At the moment, he spends pretty much the whole night in my arms…lucky he’s cute.

Although I have barely touched the sewing machine since Harvey came along, I have managed to sew a couple more outfits for him recently. This “Nukkumatti Baby Sleeper” from Ottobre 6/2012 became one of my favourites. I’ve also made it here and here, but both of those versions are too small now. They were both worn a lot though so I was happy to sew up another one and I love the ease of the invisible zip and contrasting cuffs are always a winner with me.

The fabric is Lillestoff Pirates from Crafty Mamas. I think it is sold out there now – you gotta be quick!

He’s definitley getting a lot stronger and more active, he has started rolling around and still loves having a jump in his jolly jumper. And we continue to get lots of lovely smiles like these ones…

.Baby sewing for a Summer hoilday.

Because a baby can’t go on his first holiday without some new clothes, I crammed in some sewing before our recent trip to Sydney when I should have been packing, cleaning and getting organised!
It was completely worth it though because Sydney was hot and we have had cold, cold, cold so Harvey doesn’t really have any “summer” clothes and would have been wearing his singlet and napppy!
I used the same pattern for all three short-sleeved onesies. From the latest Summer 3/2013 edition of Ottobre. It is called “Baby Whale Raglan-Sleeved Bodysuit”.

I knew that the neckline would be too tight without any alterations as it looked similar to the Kisuliini Raglan-Sleeve Bodysuit that I’ve made a few times already. But I didn’t want to have a front or back placket as I liked the simple look of the bodysuit so instead I cut just around 1/8″ off the entire neckline before adding the binding. It was just enough, easy enough to put on and off now while still fitting nicely around the neck.

So, Harvey’s worn these three suits two times each! Unless things warm up here quickly, we probably won’t be seeing them again! Ah well, the things a crazy sewing mother does…it was worth it for a few hot days!

.Harvey models: Stripes & Monkeys.

Okay, I’ve really got to get these pictures on the blog before Harvey grows any more! They were all taken at least a month ago and all of these outfits are fitting rather snuggly now, they’ll be making their way to the “too small box” by the end of the week.

First up…sad Harvey. Mean Mum made him lie down for a few photos when all he wanted to do was go to bed! This zippered suit pattern is one of my favourites for him to wear. The fit is perfect for him and it is practical and comfortable. You can read more about the pattern details here. The fabric is some Hilco stripes.

And here is his monkey outfit. Once again I added a front placket to the onesie AFTER he had worn it for the first time. The neck opening is just too snug to get on and off comfortably. So annoying to do, especially as the binding I used around the neckline was quite thick, but worth it in the end. You can read more about this outfit here.
