.Weekly Portraits #3.

Tommy: both of my boys have gone through a puzzle obsession, which lasts for a few years. I feel bad for Tommy being at home on his own all day, every day while the other two are at school. He does want my attention a lot, but he is slowly learning to entertain himself and puzzles have been the hot topic this week.

Oscar: this week, I decided it was time for Oscar to start taking some more responsiblity and learn a few “grown up” skills. So we started with cooking! Cupcakes from a packet mix, I helped him where he needed it, and he loved it.

Lil: after losing her first tooth last Sunday, her second wobbly one came out two days later! Unfortunately the tooth fairy forgot to “change her tooth into money” the second time but miraculously managed to sneak into her bedroom while she was having breakfast – phew! Lil loves her little girl cousins and I can see her doting on them (and hopefully not teaching them too many bad tricks!) as they get a bit older and more interactive.

.Weekly Portraits #2.

Lil: I thought Lil was faking a few weeks ago when she claimed to have a wobbly tooth. But sure enough, it kept getting wobblier and wobblier and tonight it fell out while she was eating her chocolate cake for dessert! The tooth is missing now, we’re not sure who ate it though – her or Aunty Talissa because they were sharing the same piece of cake! Lil was a little bit shocked and told us that she noticed something felt a bit funny so had a look in the mirror before she told anyone! A note has been written to the tooth fairy so hopefully she will remember to make a visit tonight…

Tommy: It has been a week of toilet training success – the last 5 days have been 100% accident-free and he is very confident to use the toilet now – yay! Most mornings he even wakes up dry, but I’m not ready to get rid of the night time nappies just yet.

Oscar: This week was Oscar’s favourite day of school for the year – athletics carnival. He was pumped and put his best effort into all of his races, coming home with one first place, one second place and two third places. Last year he got a first and a second and was hoping to get a third so that he had a “complete set” of ribbons so was excited to achieve his goal this year! Looking at this photo makes me a little bit sad – his arms and legs are so long now but it cracks me up that he was racing in his hat!

Tommy: We have FINALLY had toilet training success with this cheeky boy this week! I’ve been waiting for the time when he is “ready” to start toilet training, but I don’t think he would ever have been ready on his own. He was totally happy to keep wearing a nappy and being changed all day, every day. So, it started with a few tears and a lot of bribing (in the form of chocolate chips!) and slowly buy surely we are getting there. He is now happy to wear undies and we are down to only one or two accidents a day and him happily sitting on the toilet most of the time. Since starting toilet training, he has even woken up with a dry nappy most mornings and a couple of nights he has woken in the middle of the night to go to the toilet, which sounds great in theory but not when it means he is up and ready to party at 3am! This means that we are going to have our first break from nappies in 7 1/2 years! Enjoying the next 3 months of nappy-less kids while it lasts!

Oscar: I think photographing Oscar is going to be my weekly challenge…hopefully he will become more obliging as the weeks go on as he is never too impressed about having his photo taken! This week has seen Oscar obsessed with duplo. He goes from lego to duplo and back again and never ceases to amaze us with his creations.

Lil: Drawing is her favourite pastime. When we wake up in the morning she is already settled at the table with her big pieces of paper and tub of textas and pencils creating masterpieces. After three weeks of full-time school, she is well and truly ready for the weekend and is totally exhausted by the time Friday rolls around. Lil is our little social butterfly though and loves hanging out with her friends at school and thinks she is very clever learning more about reading and the alphabet this year.
