.New (cheap) tops.

I have the same dilemmas each time a new season arrives and I head out to buy the kids new clothes:

1. I want to spend as little money as possible, but don’t want to dress them in cheap, trashy-looking clothes that make them look 5 years older than they really are.

2. I don’t want them to be wearing the same clothes as every other kid at playgroup/church.

3. I am NOT a fan of character clothing. Socks, underwear and pyjamas are fine…hand-me-down playclothes are okay, but I’m not spending money on a top advertising Thomas the Tank Engine or Dora the Explorer.

4. I am really picky.

This year? Problem solved! Every time I go to Target I keep my eye out for good-quality, plain coloured long and short-sleeved tops. They are usually around $5-$7 each, as opposed to paying $15-$30 for a pre-printed top.

I came up with some cute little pics to applique and $20 + a few fabric scraps + 2 hours later, here are the results…
I was a little worried that Oscar wouldn’t like his, but he thinks they are great! It is so hard choosing appropriate “boy-friendly” fabric and designs, but I think I did pretty well this time!

Lilsy especially LOVES her sleeping rabbit top…she has a thing for rabbits and anything with its eyes clothes at the moment, so this one was a real winner with her!

P.S. I’m more than happy for you to use any of my applique ideas for your own personal use!

.give us a break!.

Well folks, you know you are getting too old to pretend you’re a superstar basketball player when this happens…

(sorry about the dodge photo, snapped it quickly before he headed to work this morning…)

On Thursday night Jaron played (amateur) basketball with some boys from church and came home hopping through the front door with an ankle the size of a basketball. Lets just say I was not impressed. I had an antenatal appointment at the hospital the next morning, so we dropped Jaron off at the emergency doors, he hopped himself in. The kids and I went to my appointment, ran into Devonport and picked up a few groceries and then picked him up at the emergency doors again, this time sporting a half-cast and crutches.

BROKEN ANKLE. Not just sprained, but broken. It was too swollen to put a proper cast on so he has to go back this week when the swelling settles down to have that put on. Full recovery in about 6 weeks – baby due in about 6 weeks…talk about timing!

Oscar is enjoing playing with his crutches…usually they end up being a temple (pictured below) or a microphone. Oh, and Jaron can still manage to participate in household chores…I may not be the most sympathetic person around, but I assure you I didn’t ask him to start vacuuming, he did it all on his own accord!

.Its a jungle out there.

There is just something about the Melly & Me “Mrs Perkins” giraffe pattern. I made one about a year ago and have had plans to make another ever since. Why make one when you can make three?! When it comes to making soft toys I always think the process is faster and smoother to make multiples. One will be a gift for a friend (but how do I choose which one to part with…) not sure what will become of the other two yet!

Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.

Oscar has always been into drawing, painting, creating anything arty. This week Lil has decided to join him…so cute, they both sit at the table for ages drawing together. I love watching their masterpieces evolve, Oscar still amazes us with the things he comes up with. Lately he has been drawing houses – not your usual four walls, a door and a window kind though, he draws house plans! Like father, like son…
