Make It Perfect

.No more post for me.

Well, tomorrow it is official…I will no longer be printing, packing or selling Make It Perfect patterns!

A few months ago we came to the point in the business where I knew it was all getting a bit big for me to do on my own, especially with baby #3 only 9 weeks away. The last 12 months have been a huge, fun learning experience. I’ve always considered myself fairly organised and on the ball, but I have really had to step up in the last little while and manage my time much more efficiently to make sure I could keep both the business and my family running smoothly and happily. We had figured out a good balance which has been working really well for us but with our new baby arriving soon I knew that something would have to give in order for me to keep sane!

When we were in Melbourne for the Australian Quilt Market we met a lovely husband and wife team, Jacques and Nel, who run a very successful sewing pattern distributorship in Melbourne. Creative Abundance distribute the patterns of around 10 well-known Australian pattern designers and have a large customer base, both in Australia and around the world. (They have a website coming soon so I’ll be sure to give you a link when it is up and running).
After lots of conversations and then Jacques and Nel coming to visit with us in Tasmania a couple of months ago we had made our decision to pass on the production and selling of the patterns to them.

I’m excited! It is going to take a bit of time to get used to not having to fill orders each day, run to the post office, print and fold patterns, etc. but I’m sure I’ll find something to do with my new spare time 😉 You might even be seeing more of me around here if you’re lucky!

.On My Doorstep.

These super cute ribbons from this store. No plans for usage yet but I’m sure I’ll come up with something.

For now, I’m just enjoying looking at them!

.Recipe Monday.

Another recipe and photo courtesy of Taste. We have been enjoying this salad a bit lately. It doesn’t take long to prepare and everyone seems to like it.

Chicken Caesar Salad
4 rashers bacon, rind removed, cut into 2cm pieces
2 slices white bread, cut into 1cm cubes
4 chicken breast fillets
1 large cos lettuce, leaves washed and broken
4 eggs, hard-boiled, cut into wedges
Caesar salad dressing (you could make your own but I bought a nice one to make it easier)

Cook bacon in a non-stick frying pan over medium-high until crisp. Remove and drain on a paper towel.
Add bread to frying pan. Cook for 3 minutes or until golden and crisp. Remove to plate with bacon.
Reduce heat to medium. Add chicken to pan. Cook for 4 minutes each side or until cooked through. Stand, covered, for 10 minutes. Slice chicken diagonally.
Arrange lettuce in a serving bowl. Top with chicken, bacon, bread and eggs. Drizzle with dressing. Season with salt and pepper and serve.

.New Beds – green and pink.

A real up to date post with photos from TODAY! Had to borrow a camera for this one…

We are trying to think of ways to decorate and furnish our home whilst keeping it as budget-friendly as possible. When we were first married, a lot of our furniture was free or cheap second-hand stuff from friends and family. We were very grateful, as we had little money to buy brand new ourselves, but it seems that after almost 8 years of marriage, alot of these hand-me-downs are wearing out and we are needing something new.

Poor old Oscar has been sleeping on a bed with a big, white, wrought iron love heart on the bedhead! He was ready to move into a big bed, someone offered us a bed and we accepted. We have been feeling a bit bad for the little fella and had decided to go and buy two single beds – one for him and one for Lil as she will be graduating soon.

Then we remembered the old, dusty wooden beds that Mum and Dad have in their shed. The beds were Ty and Cade’s when they were little and haven’t been used for years. Mum and Dad were never going to be using them again, so we “inherited” them 🙂

I didn’t get any before photos, but I’m sure you can get the gist of what they looked like before.

We started off this morning visiting the hardware store and opted for a variety of semi-gloss enamel spray paints. White for a quick undercoat, green for Oscar, pink for Lil and orange for the cot. We actually ended up needing 3 cans of pink and green and haven’t done the cot yet. We decided that spray paint would be a lot less hassle and it really was. WAY faster than paint and a brush, literally no mess and dried in about 10 minutes. That meant we didn’t have to keep the kids away for so long and although it still took a few hours, was relatively quick considering we did 1 undercoat and 3 top coats. I can’t recommend this paint enough and at only $7.50 per can we ended up getting new beds for $30 each!
The finished products and happy little recipients…
Oscar is sleeping on his tonight. Lil’s is living in the sewing room until she is ready for it. We will get around to the cot next weekend hopefully.

I have fun plans for new bedding too so will be sure to share when I have it all sorted!
