Make It Perfect

.New Beds – green and pink.

A real up to date post with photos from TODAY! Had to borrow a camera for this one…

We are trying to think of ways to decorate and furnish our home whilst keeping it as budget-friendly as possible. When we were first married, a lot of our furniture was free or cheap second-hand stuff from friends and family. We were very grateful, as we had little money to buy brand new ourselves, but it seems that after almost 8 years of marriage, alot of these hand-me-downs are wearing out and we are needing something new.

Poor old Oscar has been sleeping on a bed with a big, white, wrought iron love heart on the bedhead! He was ready to move into a big bed, someone offered us a bed and we accepted. We have been feeling a bit bad for the little fella and had decided to go and buy two single beds – one for him and one for Lil as she will be graduating soon.

Then we remembered the old, dusty wooden beds that Mum and Dad have in their shed. The beds were Ty and Cade’s when they were little and haven’t been used for years. Mum and Dad were never going to be using them again, so we “inherited” them 🙂

I didn’t get any before photos, but I’m sure you can get the gist of what they looked like before.

We started off this morning visiting the hardware store and opted for a variety of semi-gloss enamel spray paints. White for a quick undercoat, green for Oscar, pink for Lil and orange for the cot. We actually ended up needing 3 cans of pink and green and haven’t done the cot yet. We decided that spray paint would be a lot less hassle and it really was. WAY faster than paint and a brush, literally no mess and dried in about 10 minutes. That meant we didn’t have to keep the kids away for so long and although it still took a few hours, was relatively quick considering we did 1 undercoat and 3 top coats. I can’t recommend this paint enough and at only $7.50 per can we ended up getting new beds for $30 each!
The finished products and happy little recipients…
Oscar is sleeping on his tonight. Lil’s is living in the sewing room until she is ready for it. We will get around to the cot next weekend hopefully.

I have fun plans for new bedding too so will be sure to share when I have it all sorted!
