Yep, I’ve been at it again! The last few days have found me sewing more samples. This time for a shop in country NSW called “Two Friends.” Eileen (the owner) called me after seeing an advertisement in a magazine for my patterns and asked if she could order. I told her about the samples sewing service I offer and not long after our conversation I received fabric in the mail from her shop. She doesn’t have a website, so if you are ever in Leeton, NSW be sure to pop in for a visit!!
I must say it is a relief to have them finished and posted off today. The house is about 2/3 sorted and packed up and I am just left with the bits and pieces we are still needing to function in everyday life. Tuesday is moving day…pray for no rain for us, so far the forecast isn’t looking promising!
In the midst of all of this sewing, sorting, packing and getting myself ready for Melbourne I decided it was time to start reading a book! I have read and heard lots of people give “Twilight” by Stephenie Meyer great reviews so set out and bought it today. There’s nothing like a bit of time out on the couch with a good book and I haven’t treated myself to that luxury for ages. I love it now that Lil is big enough to sit and play in the bath without me having to hover over her, and always use bath time as my pattern folding/stuffing half hour…but this afternoon it turned into book reading time!
I have been eyeing off these super cute beanies for a few months and was happy to order one last week. It arrived in the post yesterday and is absolutely adorable. Great price for a totally handmade item too. They have tons of beanies to choose from, check out their Etsy store. (Which is actually closed at the moment but have a look at their sold items or Flickr account to view their products.) Lil loves putting it on and pulling it off. Dodge photos…got any tricks to make a 1 year old sit still for the camera? She is FAST! And photo taking becomes a game now with her running away any time I start snapping! It is a bit roomy, but probably a good thing as we are going into summer at the moment so will fit her for next winter too.
Sharing: New red shoes I bought last week. Buying shoes is a challenge in my life. I am super picky and often set out with the intent to buy a new pair of shoes and come home empty handed after trying on what seems like every pair of shoes in the shop. So last weekend when I saw these shoes, tried them on, had a good fit and could walk in them without looking like a fool it was love at first sight! The only problem is that I don’t really have a lot to wear them with and am now on the look out for some deep red or blue the same tone as in the trim that I can wear them with!! Sharing: Selina has done it again…I don’t know how she manages to get in Amy Butler’s new ranges weeks before any other store in Australia AND America, but she does! She told me when Daisy Chain arrived this week and I very cheekily paid her a visit today and asked to purchase some before she had officially put it out on the shelves!! It is a stunning range too, lots of deep grey, light blue, pink and green tones. Soft and floral and a huge contrast to Midwest Modern (which I loved so very much and have almost got out of my system!) Rumour has it that the entire line will be making its way to the Deloraine store Fresh Fabric next week so you will have to pop in and check it out. I limited myself to four fabrics only (for now anyway…) to make a Pinny sample to take to the Quilt Market in November.
Loads of things happening on the Make It Perfect scene at the moment…
Firstly, Chels has been up to her usual tricks again and helped me update the Discovery Bag pattern cover – looks a million times better, thanks Chelsea! (And of course the cutest model around, Hattie!)I am yet to update the website with the new cover and also have lots of extra gallery images to upload as well as updating my stockist list (so if you are stocking my patterns and your store hasn’t been added yet, bear with me…will hopefully have it done by the end of the weekend!)
Monday was photo day for us, Chelsea and the girls came out for a play and we (well, she) took photos for some new patterns. FOUR new patterns to be exact! As always, she did an amazing job and it is a huge relief to have them out of the way. I’m busily writing up the patterns now and should have everything ready to go in a few weeks. Not telling you what they are yet – but I’m excited to be introducing some “boy-friendly” designs! I have had lots of people ask me for clothing patterns for little boys as they are generally pretty hard to come by in the independent pattern industry. They will be sure to have your little man looking very spunky this summer!
Other news I don’t think I have shared yet on the blog…we are taking Make It Perfect to the Australian Quilt Market (a trade fair) in Melbourne this November! Very exciting stuff for us and lots of work to be done still, but its all coming together. The Quilt Market is basically a big fair for retail stores to shop and purchase products to then go ahead and sell in their stores (so it is not open to the general public.) I am very much looking forward to it, will be fun to meet some of the people who are currently stocking our patterns and get my name out there. The one and only Amy Butler is going to be in attendance also, so hopefully will be able to meet her and her awesomeness! So, the plan is to release the four new patterns at the Market, but it is likely that I won’t be able to contain myself until then and may just share a few with you in the coming weeks.
Other unrelated news for us is we are busily packing up the house at the moment getting ready to move in a week. I am very proud of myself and my total ruthlessness as I sort and chuck stuff that I know I will probably never use. I already have managed to fill 5 big garbage bags with rubbish and 4 big boxes of stuff to take to the tip shop. We were considering having a garage sale, but as time draws near I just can’t be bothered and would rather get rid of everything and be done with it. Its not going to be a stressful move – just a few blocks away…closer to the beach – only a 1 minute walk!
