.on Mothers Day.

After spending years teaching the primary children at church I have had my fair share of helping little sons and daughters make their Mums wonky gifts and scratch drawings for Mothers Day. It wasn’t until I had my own children that I realised the meaning of this special day.

After nursery today Oscar came running up to me and handed me a special yellow-envelope-wrapped gift…”Open it Mum, open it. Its your present!” He was so excited for me to praise his cute little handmade card, magnet and flower he had picked from outside for me. So cute, my heart just melted. This is the first time he has been old enough to make something for me and I now understand how much those wonky gifts and scratchy drawings mean to a Mother.

This Mothers Day I feel honoured to be blessed with the responsibility I have as a Mother, to raise my children and shower them with love and encouragement, building them to be caring, loving, charitable people. Some times this responsibility feels daunting and unachievable, but lucky for me I have a wonderful Mother to who has set a perfect example of Motherhood for me to base my Mothering upon. I love you Mum!

.I don’t need a cut, I just need a colour.

I would have to be one of the most clueless people around when it comes to hair. I would love tot be able to do cool, funky things with my hair, but quite frankly, I find the simple task of even using a hairdryer a challenge. In fact, I didn’t even own a hairdryer until a couple of years ago when Mum bought me one for christmas, and then it took me about 6 months to actually gain the confidence to get it out of the box and use it!

So my issue today is that I have bogan regrowth at the moment and desperately need to go to the hairdressers to get a colour, but I don’t really want to spend $100 at the moment to make the visit. I am contemplating doing a home job myself…but want to ask a bit of advice first before I go ahead and totally wreck it altogether! (And believe me, I have been known to totally wreck it before, I dyed my friend Kellie Hadley’s hair once a few years ago and it was the most terrible thing I have ever done in my life. She had to go to the hairdressers the next day to get it fixed. I’m surprised that she is still my friend!)

Is anyone out there more of a hair expert than I am…do I go ahead and colour it myself and if so, what dye do I use and how do I do it and what colour should I go?

Or do I not risk it and fork out the money to go to the hairdressers?

Or do I just stick with the regrowth and get over it altogether??

I seriously thought I started this quilt about a year ago…blogs are great for keeping track of dates and times, turns out it was 7 months ago!! Well I finally finished it. I love having a “quilt on the go” with no time limit, to do a bit here and there when I feel like it, just for fun. This is Oscar’s snuggle on the couch quilt. Mum makes her grandchildren a cot-sized quilt and gives it to them when they are born, so I thought it would be nice for me to make them another special quilt to snuggle under when their baby one is too small.

.Recipe Monday.

I love marshmallows and anything marshmallowy, so I came up with this homemade version of an Arnotts chocolate royal…

Chocolate Royals
115g butter or margarine, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1 3/4 cups plain flour
1/3 cup cocoa
1/2 tsp bicarb soda
1/2 tsp salt
20 marshmallows
1/4 cup dark choc melts, melted

Cream butter and sugar.
Add egg, milk and vanilla, mix well.
Combine flour, cocoa, bicarb and salt. Beat into creamed mixture.
Drop rounded teaspoonfuls into baking paper lined trays.
Bake at 180 degrees for 8 minutes.
Meanwhile, cut marshmallows in half.
Press a marshmallow half, cut side down, onto each cookie.
Return to oven for 2 minutes.
Cool completely on a wire rack.
Place melted chocolate into a small snap lock bag.
Snip off the tip of one corner to make a piping bag.
Drizzle chocolate over biscuits, allow to set.
