Okay, so I have gone a tad mad over monkeys…visited one of my favourite quilt stores yesterday planning to buy some fabric to make a bag for Whitney for her birthday and ended up with fabric to make a funky monkey quilt instead! (Sorry Whit, the bag will come eventually – the monkeys were just too cute!) So, this is the fabric I selected to make they quilt – for Oscar to snuggle under when he watches telly…I have super easy pattern made using a quick strip cutting and piecing technique. I haven’t done it before, but so far it is very quick and easy – just what I need to fit in between feeds and tending to little ones.
While I was in the shop I came across this pattern to make a cute monkey! How cool is he?? I just couldn’t resist, so that came home with me too…a few projects to keep me busy and sane for the next little while!
In a monkey mood last night I found a few sites online with instructions to make sock monkeys. They are made out of a pair of socks! Have been looking at these cute little things for awhile now, but never got around to making them so now that monkeys have taken over our house, I will have a go at making some of them soon. (Can you tell that I haven’t made anything in aaaages and am having withdrawls!!!)
P.S. Anyone know where I can buy some funky socks??
Make It Perfect
This is serious stuff…you see, he is using two computers so its gotta be serious!
I am soooo sick of books and building plans strewn around the house, but I am trying my very best to be patient and supportive!
Jaron has about 4 weeks left until he is finished with uni once and for all – he has been going for 8 years! For me, the thought of 4 weeks left is VERY exciting…we will finally have our Dad and husband back and will not have to discuss building plans and designs every 5 minutes! For Jaron, the thought of only 4 weeks to get everything done is stressful, but I know he will be okay.
So, when it is all over it is time to move into the “real world” – the world of a 9-5 working Dad. Although it will be great to have a decent, stable income, I know we will both miss the life of a student. The money is rotten, but the flexibility is wonderful. Never having to answer to anyone, taking holidays and going out for lunch whenever we want, having Jaron home a couple of days a week, etc.
When he is finished he will have three degrees behind him, so I think it is definitely time he puts university behind him once and for all!!
Our first mutual after changing our clocks an hour forward for daylight savings, finally we get to enjoy light evenings and have some more outside activities! This week we went to the Deloraine cemetery and did some cleaning up and had a scavenger hunt where we had a list of past ward members and their family members to find who are buried here. It was freezing, fun and a little spooky when the sun started to set…
We had a laugh at this grave site…Emily’s boyfriend, Jacob is on a mission at the moment in New Zealand – his nickname is “cob”!

Oh the innocence of a 2 year old…he had no idea where he was and exerted a lot of energy running on and around the graves!
This recipe came from my Aunty Margaret. They are super sweet and very yummy, I made them in mini ice cream cones for Oscar’s party on the weekend.
Marshmallow Cones
2T gelatine
½c cold water
2c sugar
1c hot water
1t lemon juice
1t vanilla essence
Ice cream cones
Set cones out in a baking tray.
Sprinkle gelatine over cold water.
Place sugar and hot water in a large pan. Stir over heat slowly until boiling. Add gelatine mixture.
Bring to the boil, and boil uncovered without stirring for 15 minutes.
Remove from heat and allow to cool.
Add lemon juice and essence.
Beat with beaters on high speed until mixture is white, glossy and very thick.
Pour into cones and sprinkle with 100’s & 1000’s. Leave in fridge to set.
