We always said that when Oscar turns 2 we would get rid of his dummy. Well, we were a week late, but we have taken the plunge and done it!
When Mason was younger, Winston cut his dummys up with a pair of scissors and got Mason to put them in the bin so that he knew what had happened to them and that they were broken and he couldn’t use them anymore. I remember everyone being so horrified that Winston could do something so traumatic to a little boy!! Haha! But it worked. Carli and Winston also did the same thing with Maya and it worked with her too, so we thought we would adopt the same technique with Oscar!

It has been a couple of days now, but so far, so good. Every now and then he asks for it and then remembers and says “Daddy, dummy, snip, snip, bin”. So, he has been sleeping without it and life is fine.
I think we were more worried about what it would mean for us if Oscar didn’t have his dummy anymore, but now I realise that the dummy was more important to us than it was to Oscar!!
Make It Perfect
On Saturday we went to a baby shower for Emma. It was lots of fun and great to catch up with some friends and have a chat.
These 3 little monkeys had a photo shoot…aren’t they so cute together?
Darcy (left) is Anna (Horsman) and Devin Cullis’ son and is 17 weeks old, Lil is in the middle, 10 weeks old, and William (right) is Louise and Levi’s son and is 20 weeks old. (Did I get those ages right girls??)
They are all related, so no little loves here – just great friends! We were trying to work out what their relationship to each other is, but it started to get a little complicated and I know people will start to bag us out for being so “Tasmanian-ish” and having cousins and second cousins everywhere!
I think it is great for our kids to grow up with lots of family members around and lots of little cousins (no matter how distantly related!) to play with…we just wish we were closer to our children’s first cousins who all live in Sydney so that they could grow up being great friends too!

Well, I did it…made a sock monkey! She is funky – her name is Mabel. It was really easy, I can’t believe the whole thing was made out of 1 pair of socks! It took me about 3 hours…not like me to go to bed at 12:30, but I was on a roll and wanted to finish her! Not bad for a $2 pair of socks! Now that I know it works I will keep my eyes open for cool socks on my travels!
Go here to find the instructions I followed to make Mabel. They were really easy to follow and had big clear photos to help.
Yesterday we were happy to have some unexpected visitors pop in. Our friends Linda and Zoe turned up for playgroup to find out that it wasn’t on this week so they came for a visit to our house instead. It was great to catch up with them and for Oscar and Zoe to have a play together. We were going to have a boring day as Jaron had left for work in the morning with the pram and the baby bjorn in the car and we were stuck at home so it was nice to have them turn up for a play.
I kind of lied last post when I said that I hadn’t made anything in ages…but this doesn’t count because it is dodgy! I had a few bits and pieces lying around and thought I could make a picnic blanket with them…the fabric I have had for ages and the “wadding” inside the blanket is 2 old pieces of polar fleece that we used to use for extra blankets on the bed. It’s okay I guess…usually when I make things I try and do a good job on them, but sometimes the words that pop into my mind as I am sewing are “rough and ready”. This blanket is definitely a rough and ready piece – the kind of thing I would be really embarrassed to let another quilter see! I figure its just going to get put down on dirty areas and have food spilled over it so it doesn’t matter! I am pretty happy with my idea of putting polar fleece inside…it has made it really thick and cushiony and can even be turned into a blanket to snuggle under if we are ever outside and the weather turns on us!
It was nice and sunny and kind of warm for a few hours yesterday after lunch so the kids and I went outside to try it out and get a bit of vitamin D!!!
