This is something I have wanted to try for a long time…and look, I have done it! Well, they can only get better from now on, I have heaps to learn, can tell this is going to get addictive! At least it doesn’t make a mess…
Make It Perfect
Today we spent a lovely few hours in Sheffield (on the way to Cradle Mountain). Sheffield is the Tasmanian town of murals – there are huge murals painted on walls everywhere, it is a beautiful little town situated at the base of a big beautiful mountain called Mount Roland.
Every year Sheffield holds a national Muralfest where artists submit small scale pictures of murals to be entered in the competition, each year a new poem is released from which the artists must draw inspiration for their designs. A few of these artists are selected each year and come together for a week to paint their murals. Today was the last day of the fest and we have followed through on our tradition to go and see the murals each year.
This is the poem the murals were based on this year:
I felt your first heart beat
oh sons and daughters of mine
Like the trees of my forests
I watched you grow tall and multiply
Like a rainstorm across my mountains
I watched my daughters cry
When my sons marched to fight afar
for freedom for this land
The winds that come to embrace me
across my outstretched land
Brings new life to my sandy shores
new sons and daughters of mine
With snow covered mountains and valleys
with rivers that flow like wine
This sun covered land I give you
Oh sons and daughters of mine
You all must live in harmony
like the sea, the land, the sky.

Its much more fun going to events like these now that Oscar is a little bigger. There were clowns and bubbles and balloons for the kids to play with so he had a great time running around.
This morning everything seems to have gone wrong:
Oscar is getting molars and is so grumpy, he is whinging and carrying on about every little thing.
He has also got a cold and mega runny nose, so that is making him grumpy too.
I have been making a quilt for Oscar for when he moves into a big bed and this morning I was shaking a black ink pen and didn’t realise that it was leaking and got big black un-movable spots all over the Humpty Dumpty square and on Miss Muffetts leg – they took me AGES to do and I don’t want to start again so hopefully when I am feeling more in control I will be able to work out some way to disguise the big ugly black spots.
When I put Oscar to bed, he all of a sudden jumped up as I leaned down to tuck him in and his head hit me in the mouth and made my tooth go through my lip and now I have a fat, red, bleeding lip.
Okay, that is why my morning has been crappy, now that I have had a whinge it IS going to be a good day!!!
AFTER THOUGHT – I just looked at the calendar and realised that it is Friday 13th today!!
The baby of our family turned 17 yesterday. And he has passed his P’s test and has a car so watch out on the roads! We had birthday dinner last Sunday night for Cade as he is away in Melbourne this week.
Some light entertainment provided by Oscar and Poppy Tom:

Time for another spectacular recipe…
I made this recipe up a few months ago, and it worked out really well so it has been made and enjoyed in our home a few times since. The quantities of ingredients are kind of guessed, so just adjust things according to your taste and what you like.
Roasted Tomato Pasta Toss
6 tomatoes
sugar
1 packet fresh fettuccini
1 bunch basil
2 cloves garlic, crushed
salt and pepper to taste
2T olive oil
2T balsamic vinegar
1 bag baby spinach leaves
5 rindless rashers bacon, diced
¼c parmesan cheese
Chop tomatoes into quarters. Place on tray lined with baking paper. Sprinkle with sugar.
Bake in 200°C oven for 15-30 minutes or until soft and mushy.
While tomatoes are cooking, cook pasta in boiling water until tender.
Place tomatoes, basil, garlic, salt, pepper, oil and vinegar into food processor.
Process until thin. Add some extra sugar or salt or pepper to taste.
Cook bacon in microwave in covered dish until crispy.
Place drained pasta into a large bowl. Mix through tomato sauce, bacon, baby spinach and parmesan cheese.
